Toronto police are investigating two shootings that occurred at the same bus stop in the city’s east end on Sunday night and Monday morning. The incidents are believed to be unrelated, but police are still trying to determine if they were random or targeted.
First shooting leaves man with serious injuries
The first shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, when a man was waiting for a bus near Danforth Road and Eglinton Avenue East. According to police, a suspect approached the man and shot him multiple times in the upper body. The victim, who is in his 30s, was taken to a trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene on foot and remains at large.
Police have not released any description of the suspect or the motive for the shooting. They are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
Second shooting injures man in his 20s
The second shooting occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Monday, at the same bus stop where the first shooting took place. Police said a man in his 20s was standing at the bus stop when he was shot in the leg by an unknown assailant. The victim was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and is expected to recover. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle and has not been identified.
Police said they are looking into the possibility that the second shooting was a case of mistaken identity, as the victim was wearing similar clothing to the first victim. They are also reviewing surveillance footage and canvassing the area for witnesses.
Police increase presence in the area
In response to the shootings, police have increased their presence and patrols in the area to ensure public safety and deter further violence. They are also working with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) to review the security measures at the bus stop and other transit locations.
